Sticky Notes
I like working with sticky notes.
They are great for getting my thoughts down quickly, to headline an idea or contain a scene I’ve been working on.
I think my favourite thing is how they can be repositioned, moved in and out of sequence. They can be removed and added. They dance around a wall or a table.
They are less permanent then writing directly into a notebook, there’s less need to cross out, rub out or start a new page.
I think this tendency towards sticky notes comes from devising during my B.A and M.A. Devising theatre means a lot of shifting to find the perfect fit or the perfect groups of connections around an idea. Sticky notes allowed me and my collaborators to play around with an order, to try things out and to highlight what we loved. Whole shows can be moved around hours before a performance. And as much as I like to know whats happening and to have a bit of stability in every-day life, I kind of really enjoy how things are never really settled when making theatre.
( A good lesson to remember. )
Or it might have been watching my dad switch around songs in a set list
Currently using sticky notes to figure out a story structure for my monster film I am making at the moment. I was also helped by my good friend Liza Stevens to bounce these ideas around and see if they stick.
I really bloody miss meeting up with other creatives and discussing ideas but Zoom will have to do. It’s something to look forward to at least.
(Sticky notes are also great for doodling!)
